The series of festivals and conferences known collectively as South by Southwest (SXSW) has become a household name, notably for its merging of technology, entertainment, education and culture.  SXSW V2V, the newest addition to its lineup of events, was created for finding, financing, and developing new business. SXSW  Inc. (the company that hosts SXSW) has been cited for giving V2V multiple meanings, some of which are: “Vision to Venture,” “Visionaries to Vegas,” and “Voice to Voice.” In other words, it’s the place to be for up-and-coming startups, as well as prospective funders.

StartupValley’s CMO Adam Smith moderated the panel, Startups: Innovating Big Business, which consisted of Guy Story, the CTO of Audible.com, Joseph Jaffe, CEO of Evol8tion, and StartupValley’s CEO, Daryl Bryant. Topics included the merging of big corporations and startups, best practices for brand collaboration, and startup funding.

Known in the startup industry for being among the first to create an online equity crowdfunding portal focused on Title III of the JOBS Act, Daryl spoke about the difference between traditional crowdfunding and equity crowdfunding, highlighting the importance of SEC guideline-compliance in order for equity crowdfunding to become the new industry standard for growing businesses. Thus, his focus was (and has consistently been) the ways in which startups can prepare now; this way, once the SEC passes its guidelines, startups will be able to immediately begin raising capital—thus, providing jobs and stimulating the economy . The more preparation, the smoother the transition.

Aside from Adam and Daryl’s participation in the panel, StartupValley was honored to meet such enthusiastic innovators in virtually every sector, from entertainment to education.
